DSLR courses

The 1-day Digital SLR Beginners course provides a comprehensive introduction into using your DSLR camera in the creative modes – i.e. get it off auto-everything and take control, all the entire course is outdoors, putting you right in the deep end of learning about your camera.

The course is suitable for users of Digital SLR cameras. This includes the latest mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras such as the Nikon D3000, Canon rebel, Sony Nex, Panasonic G/GH/GF series and Olympus Pen series. If you don’t have a Digital SLR camera but are planning or thinking of getting one then come on the class – we can lend you a camera at a nominal charge with a choise lenses. You will then be in a much better position to know which camera will suit you and your shooting needs and what is worth spending money on and what isn’t good value.

Unfortunately, most camera manufacturers’ user guides are not great at helping you use your camera effectively. They are fine as reference material – e.g. if you cannot remember how to change a specific setting or what a particular symbol means – but they don’t really help you understand which setting you should be using and why. This is where our DSLR Beginners Course helps; we will not only help you understand the features of your camera but also provide you with simple strategies to decide the appropraite settings when you are out there shooting. We shoot with Nikon, but have experience in Canon, Olympus, Panasonic and Sony DSLR cameras and also have experience with Pentax so can really help you find your way around your particular camera. We also understand the various menu settings that can transform the ease of use of your DSLR.

The course covers:

  • Familiarity with your camera
  • Taking better pictures – composition, depth of field, context, light
  • Theory of digital photography – exposure, apertures, shutter speeds and white balance
  • Camera modes – what they are and how to choose which to use
